We had the pleasure of catching up with Kate Dayton, the lovely founder of Mayde Tea. Our goal was to uncover the story behind Mayde Tea and learn about Kate's daily rituals. Thank you Kate.

T: What inspired you to start Mayde Tea?

KD: I was inspired to start Mayde Tea out of a passion for holistic wellness and the healing power of natural ingredients. I wanted to create blends that not only tasted amazing but also supported people's health in a simple, natural way. The more I explored the world of herbal teas, the more I realized there was an opportunity to share these benefits with others, and that’s how Mayde Tea was born.

T: What is your favourite part of owning Mayde Tea?

KD: My favorite part of owning Mayde Tea is connecting with our community. Whether it’s hearing how our teas have become a part of someone's daily routine or seeing them stocked in beautiful stores across the country, it's incredibly rewarding. I also love the creative process—experimenting with new blends and finding ways to make our packaging more sustainable.

T: Where do you see Mayde Tea in 10 years?

KD: In 10 years, I see Mayde Tea as a global brand that continues to prioritize sustainability and wellness. I envision our teas being a household staple in even more countries, with an expanded range of products that stay true to our core values. I also hope to have a larger impact through educational initiatives and partnerships that promote holistic health and environmental responsibility.

T: Describe your morning/evening routine.

KD: My morning routine usually starts with a cup of Earl Grey or our energise blend, followed by some quiet time to set my intentions for the day. I like to include a bit of movement, whether it’s a walk or a gym class. In the evening, after putting our kids to bed, I wind down with a calming tea, like our Serenity blend.

T: What are you listening to at the moment?

KD: Lately, I've been listening to a mix of calming music and inspiring podcasts. Music helps me stay grounded and creative, while podcasts are great for learning new things and staying motivated. Some of my current favorites include Huberman Lab for wellness tips and Khruangbin for a soothing soundtrack to my day.

T: What health advice would you give your younger self?

KD: I’d tell my younger self to prioritize balance and listen to your body. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, but taking time to rest, nourish yourself with good food, and stay connected to nature is just as important. Also, don’t stress about perfection—small, consistent steps toward wellness are what really make a difference in the long run.

T: What is your go-to recipe?

KD: My go-to recipe is a simple, nourishing bowl of roasted veggies with quinoa and a tahini dressing. It’s quick, delicious, and packed with nutrients. I love how versatile it is—you can switch up the veggies and grains depending on what’s in season or what you have on hand. I usually add some fish or organic chicken for added protein.

T: What are three items you always have in your fridge?

KD: You’ll always find fresh greens, oat milk, and hummus in my fridge. The greens are great for smoothies or salads, oat milk is a must for my cups of black tea, and hummus is my favourite go-to snack. They’re all staples that keep me feeling energized and healthy.
